Scott Karp pubslished a website on the convergence of media and digital technology.

Publishing 2.0 is Scott Karp’s ongoing analysis of the convergence of media and digital technology, which is driving the second revolution in media by enabling the masses to control, participate in, and become media.

The convergence of the media industry and the technology industry is evident in Google’s billions in advertising revenue, Yahoo’s rivalry with Google and traditional media, Microsoft’s repositioning itself as a media company (and its rivalry with Google and Yahoo), and the business plan of every Web 2.0 start-up. This convergence has also put every traditional media company, from Hollywood to newspapers, on the defensive.

Where media and technology converge — in web applications, online social networking, blogging, online video, etc. — everything is media — and technology has reduced the barriers to entry for content, software, and services to near zero.

The convergence of media and technology has leveled the playing field in that anybody can play and nobody knows for sure where this is all headed.

Publishing 2.0 tries to make sense of the revolution as it unfolds — or at least ask the right questions.

Scott Karp is available for consultation on new media ventures and for conference speaking engagements. Scott also enjoys participating in private betas and frequently writes about start-ups.

Scott Karp is the Managing Director of Research and Strategy for a niche publisher.
