I was recently led to Bill Clinton’s new blog over at ClintonAfrica.org by my friends over at Bloggers Blog.
I was left pondering Bill Clinton and what he must know about Web Publishing. I assume he and his wife Hilary talk some about her campaign and I’m assuming he learned something about the internet during his time as President. A few things are very evident to me.
1. Don’t Be Afraid of Comments.
Bill actually goes a step further and he encourages it by allowing free comments on his blog.
2. Don’t Be Afraid of Open Source.
Clinton Africa is built entirely on WordPress. Check out their cool WP-Sign In Page I would however recommend they Whitelist this. But really don’t worry about expensive CMS’s stick to free stable tools and cut down on your overhead.
3. Don’t Be Afraid of Passion.
Seems like loads of people on the internet today are afraid of passion. Don’t be just be passionate and stick to your guns. Clinton’s passionate about making real change in the world even though he’s accomplished more than most of us ever will. He hasn’t quit. He keeps pressing on. That’s something all of us need to take to heart.

David, this is so cool. Thanks for sharing this.
I would definitely say that the hope of the world is riding on those who are not afraid to express their passion, their beliefs, and their uniqueness.
The dark side of things has our media (even online publications) becoming more and more sterilized.
Thank God there are some brave souls out there who aren’t afraid to be Rocky Road when the mainstream publishing world is pressuring them to be plain boring Vanilla.

I love what you added too. It gave me a swift kick in the creative mindset thank you. All that’s in my head is Brave New World…

Ha–David, I don’t think you’ll ever be in danger of being called Vanilla anything.
And to think that the quest of some many online publishers is to “find their voice” and stand out from the crowd. I think that the challenge for someone like you who naturally stands out (you couldn’t be Vanilla if you tried, thank God) is that when you do stand out, there will always be folks who want to push you back in line with everyone else.
You’re doing a great job of being brave enough to stand apart and be all Rocky Road on us.

David and Sharon — Excellent points about blogging about passionate things…and being passionate about life.
Your post makes me think of another point. When people are really committed to their causes, they can move mountains, because no matter the criticism they receive and no matter the obstacles that they meet, they keep going. Bill Clinton will help his causes because he commits to them, and shows up over and over for them.
We definitely need more inspiring folks like this!
