Disclaimer: I’ve sold way more than the least of my productive sites. I’ve sold just about all of them. And kept the underperformers. So this is backwards advice.
I was talking to a friend the other day. And one piece of advice I had was to sell the bottom 25% of his content network every year. I really do recommend this. And I will explain why. It’s my belief that many publishers spend 80% of there time working on there best performing sites. So if every year we are selling of the underperforming sites than our best performers have a better chance of going to the next level.
One thing I noticed with 901am was that when I focussed only on it it truly took off and blossomed. Today one site just won’t work for me. But the principles still apply. Focus thin and focus deep and don’t spread myself out to wide and success will come.
So take the advice. Sell 25% of your content network off every year. Just the underperformers though.
