According to Australia’s Bribane Times a doctor in Australia who blogs and divulged private details about patients could be fined and definitely will be dealth with.
A doctor who divulged details about patients on his internet diary will be dealt with by Queensland Health’s ethical standards unit.
The doctor, Gavin Cleland, could be disciplined for publicly releasing patient information on his Myspace page.
Included in the information was the name of an 87-year-old male patient and details of the rectal exam and enema treatment he received.
A Cairns Base Hospital spokesman confirmed the unit was investigating the incident, and what action it could take, given that Dr Cleland was no longer employed by Queensland Health.
His contract expired last week - the same week his Myspace page was found and shut down.
Ok seriously he faces a fine of 3750 dollars? Is that Australian? I mean seriously this is totally out of line. The guy should be barred from practicing. If my doctor revealed this stuff I dunno what I’d do but it wouldn’t be pretty.
In totally unrelated news this photo in the article has nothing to do with the article. I just wish I was sitting in that hammock.

Oy–this is scary!
First of all, why would a doctor have a MySpace page to begin with? That just seems sort of out of place. I can imagine a doc having a blog, just not a MySpace page, for some reason.
Second of all, yeah, I agree, his license should be revoked entirely. Forget the fine–he shouldn’t be allowed to practice at all anymore.
This makes me only want to go to doctors who are completely computer illiterate, so there will never be any danger of them doing something so stupid as to set up a MySpace page (or other site) and divulge confidential info!
And that hammock does look comfy. I need to relax after getting steamed about this blogging doctor charlatan.
